World Vision Partners LGU in Child Health Now
To commemorate nutrition month the city of Oroquieta showcased different farm produce during the culmination of the 38th National Nutrition Month with the theme "Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin , araw-araw itong ihain" on Thursday March 26 at the ABC Gym. Clustered Barangays set up booths as they displayed varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Highlighting the affair was a "Market-Market sa Barrio Fiesta" where visitors and onlookers can buy farm produce at a low price and most importantly, the program launching of "Child Health Now" a global advocacy campaign aimed to end preventable deaths in child 0-5 years old. Most of these child death happens because of preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea,malnutrition, and lack of access to quality health care. Child Health Now campaign is undertaken by World Vision Development Foundation through HIMAYA Foundation as lead agency with LGU-Oroquieta as partner. A four year campaign goal intends to engage partners(LGU) in improving Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN). These MNCHN support systems include policies and legislation, regulations for service delivery, government and civil society collaboration, including participation of families, children and youth. To recall, Oroquieta has a continuing child Feeding Program that started in 2010 covering 47 barangays. Recently, another child health watch program "Bantay Kahimsog sa Kabataan" was also launched by the JPA administration.
The culmination event was participated by City and Barangay Health workers and officers, NGO workers, World Vision volunteers. Later in the day a veggie cooking and eating contest was held. (sidlak) gls. 07-28-2012
