Oroquieta Prepares for the 8th WestMin Jamboree
Welcome to the City of Good Life! A warm greeting awaits an estimated 6,000 delegates for the “8th Western Mindanao Regional Scout Jamboree” hosted by this city. Scout Masters, boys ages ranging from 12-17 years old from different councils of the region will attend the jamboree at the renowned boy scout camp in Punta Blanca, brgy. Mobod on October 18-20. The Boy Scouts' Western Mindanao council covers the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Cotabato, Iligan and Zamboanga.
On Tuesday October 2 final preparation and consultation conference was held at the MOPUSTA Bldg. presided by Regional BSP Director Pedro Penados with the BSP city council members, BSP representatives from nearby provinces and the different committees involved in overall security, health and sanitation, construction ,site preparation’ light and water installation manned by personnel from the public services division of the city’s engineering office. Similarly, strict security guidelines will be enforced. The local police force, barangay police, blue guards, regional police mobile group and men from the Philippine Army will be deployed to provide 24/7 security for this big event.
The Vice President of the Philippines Hon. Jejomar Binay is expected to grace the affair.
Host city Mayor Jason P. Almonte Camp will be the main camp in Punta Blanca and there will be 3 sub camps at the MOPAC grounds. 1st District Congressman George T. Almonte is currently the BSP Provincial Council Chairman who made efforts in choosing Oroquieta city as the venue for this prestigious regional scouting event. He said that the” jamboree will inspire among young Filipinos the virtue of patriotism and leadership”. Several leadership and outdoor activities are lined up for this 3 day occasion. (SIDLAK) gLs
