Farmer Beneficiaries Hold Festival
A showcase of fresh bountiful agricultural products were presented in the Ist "Harvest Festival" in the Barangays of Victoria and Clarin Settlement last September 27, 2011 of this city. It can be recalled that the 2 barangays were selected as pilot areas for the production of agricultural produce such as corn, fruits and vegetables. The project is implemented by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture ( SEARCA ) under the European Union-Focused Food Production Assistance to Vulnerable Sectors ( EU-FPAVAS ) a leading enabler in the science and practice of agriculture and rural developments in Southeast Asia. The agency ( SEARCA ) is also involved in research development and knowledge management. The Provincial Manager of SEARCA Mr. Orlen Aguillon who was one of the guest speakers thanked the people of Oroquieta for their support on the project. He pointed out, "remarkably, Oroquieta City is different, the people are very responsive and open with regards to new techniques as compared to conventional methods of farming." He also thanked the Local Government Unit of Oroquieta under the leadership of Mayor Jason P. Almonte in providing farm machinery and equipment and also field technicians of the Agriculture Office in assisting the farmer beneficiaries.
October Opens with Pyro and Live Band
The City of Oroquieta welcomed the month of October with fanfare and joy last Sunday October2, 2011. The first ever "Pyro Musical Competition" was held at the MOPAC grounds in the evening backed up by the multi awarded all female led singer band "Aegis". October is the month wherein major events; "Inug-Og" Festival and City Fiesta are held yearly in honor of the Patroness.
MAYOR BINAY LEADS OPENING OF OROQUIETA TOWN CENTER (OTC)
A soft opening and blessing of a multimillion peso flagship project of the Almonte administration was held on October 14, 2011. The project- Oroquieta City Town Center which consists; a one stop shop commercial stalls, refreshment and food establishments, ATM machines , public and private offices, hotel, conference and multipurpose halls, swimming pool, a spacious parking area with modern Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal located in Barangay Canubay a 1 kilometer drive from the city proper. It is a P180 million PNB assisted project.
2ND GRAND CONCEPT PARADE A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH
The City of Good Life as what Oroquieta is popularly known held its 2nd Grand Concept Parade around the capital last October 14, 2011. Now on its 2nd year the parade is a major attraction in the city's month-long October celebration and a prelude to the city fiesta. Thousands of spectators watched the fabulous Grand Parade unfold as the first float left Oroquieta City Fish Port at 4:00 p.m.- the designated starting point of the said activity.
Charitable Organization Donate Gift Packs
Feed the Hungry Philippines ( FtH ) a charitable institution based in Washington, D.C. USA donated gift packs containing rice, milk, canned goods, sugar, noodles, toiletries etc. to some 200 poor families of Oroquieta City on January 27, 2012 at the Oroquieta City ABC Gym. The US based institution that started in 1993 as a gift-giving and feeding project for indigent children in the Philippines by a group of World Bank Group and IMF Filipino staff is headed by its Chairman of the Board Mrs. Lottie T. Buhain who traveled all the way from the US together with the officers and FilAm volunteers. To date, FtH has an array of programs concerning Feeding and Nutrition, Education, Infrastructure ( classroom and water system) Calamity Relief and Emergency Medical Assistance (CREMA),Gift-giving and Livelihood that directly benefited recipients in the Philippines and the US. The group was requested and introduced here by Dr. Zosimo Micabalo a long time practicing physician in the US who happens to be an Oroquietanian known for his humanitarian deeds.
